Living in rural Waikato, we wanted to build a character style home to replace our existing old farm house and which would sit well in the landscape. After looking at their plans, meeting with Helen and Lena-Jane, and visiting an example of an Alena Homes house, we knew they were the builders for us. Working with their architect, we were able to develop a floor plan to suit our building site and match our vision for a lovely new home. It was fantastic to be able to incorporate recycled features from the old house into the new build.

We went to Alena Homes Ltd after a lot of looking around at different homes, and still came back to Alena homes as we liked their style. This is the first time we going to build a home. Not knowing what to do, Helen was a great help to us (talk about country hicks coming to town, not knowing a thing about building a home).

We talked to Helen and found her very very helpful and her knowledge was great as we had never built a home before. We picked out a plan, went home, pulled it to bits and made it into what we liked. Went back to Helen several times, she could not be more helpful. We finally settled on our house plan. Helen did a portfolio of the steps that would take place. It was very clear as each step went along.

Lena-Jane Walls joined Helen about halfway through the building of the house. Lena-Jane turned out to be a quick learner and was very good at her job as well. If there were any problems it was no trouble for Helen or Lena-Jane to fix it. It would be rectified within a short space of time, the same day if it was possible. Helen had a good team working for her right through the building of the house. We would definitely build another home with them, no hesitation at all going back. Excellent people to deal with.

Do you think we should build Janine? We’ve never don’t that before. We’ve wallpapered and painted, even replace an old front door. Let’s buy a section then dream all the possibilities it might give, then create a home, a very special place for us both to go and live. Some same it’s stressful, some say it’s tricky, some say it’s really tough but that’s proved further from the truth, it’s been smooth, not faintly rough.

I would like to formally endorse Alena Homes who recently built a two bedroom cottage that I am now living in. Alena Home usually builds larger homes and specialise in houses with old-age character and charm. My cottage was planned to sit adjacent to a hundred year old villa so it needed to fit in. And it certainly does. Being a second home on a lifestyle block, the cottage meets the local council requirement of being no more than 70 square meters, but it is spacious and very well designed. It also looks great.

Embarking on a building project in my mid-70s was a challenge, but Alena Homes made the whole experience exciting and relatively stress-free. Helen (the manager) and Lena-Jane (sales manager) were great to work with. Nothing was too much trouble. Sure there were days when nothing happened on the site but proposed schedules were met. I was particularly impressed with the builders and with the sub-contactors. All very nice people and very skilled and efficient.

I can genuinely recommend Alena Homes and would welcome anyone looking for a classic two-bedroom cottage to arrange a visit to my cottage through Alena Homes.
